“Mawu of the Waters” by Abena P.A. Busia (Ghana) Entry Task I am Mawu of the Waters. With mountains as my footstool And stars in my curls I reach down to reap the waters with my fingers And look! I cup lakes in my palms. I fling oceans around me like a shawl And am transformed Into a waterfall. Springs flow through me And spill rivers at my feet As fresh streams surge To make seas. Find a line you like and draw a picture

Informational Paragraph Structure In the novel, The Giver, Jonas wants to fit in but his eyes don’t let him. At the start of Chapter 3 we learn that he has pale eyes... Everyone else has dark eyes in the community. Jonas gets upset when his sister Lily comments on his eyes. This shows that Jonas isn’t entirely comfortable with having pale eyes while everyone else has dark eyes. If he was comfortable with it—then he would not have gotten upset with Lily when she said the baby had the same color eyes he did. When he looks at the baby’s eyes, even he is uncomfortable with them. This shows he is bothered by the way other might see him. Clearly, Jonas wants to fit in, but struggles to do so. Topic sentence Example, detail, quote, etc. Explanation of that Concluding sentence

Informational Paragraph Structure In the novel, Fahrenheit 451, Montag realizes he’s unhappy, so he starts questioning his life and the world around him. When his neighbor, Clarisse, asks him if he’s happy, at first he tries to deny it. But when he arrives home he realizes he is not happy. This causes him to start to wonder about his job, if firemen always started fires, or if they used to put them out. Later on, when he witnesses a woman set herself on fire, he is shaken to his foundation. Afterwards, at home, he cries to himself in the dark, an unusual thing to do for a man of his position. Clearly, he is troubled with his life, and the world around him. Topic sentence Example, detail, quote, etc. Explanation of that Concluding sentence
