Media Construction of Peace PowerPoint Slide Show, Unit 1, Lesson 1 Working for Peace; Working for Justice

As a result of Thoreau’s writings I became convinced that noncooperation with evil is as much a moral obligation as is cooperation with good. Martin Luther King, Jr. If the law is of such a nature that It requires you to be an agent of injustice to another then I say break the law. Henry David Thoreau Thoreau’s ideas influenced me greatly. Why I actually took the name of my movement from Thoreau’s essay, “On the Duty of Civil Disobedience.” Mahatma Gandhi By Robert Edwin Lee and Jerome Lawrence. Directed by Laura Jones

“Huerta, with Cesar Chavez, advocated for the rights of farm workers and founded the United Farmworkers of America during the mid-1960s. Huerta helped lead the famous Delano grape strike of More than 5,000 San Joaquin Valley grape workers walked off their jobs to protest low wages. For more than 40 years, Huerta has been a tireless activist working to ensure that civil rights extend to the unemployed and the under- employed. In 1963 she fought to extend coverage of the Aid for Dependent Families Act to this group in California as well as for disability insurance for farm workers.” “This event is sponsored by the University of Houston History Department and College of Education, and their U.S.  Dept of Education grant partners....”
