Henry David Thoreau

Thoreau American poet, philosopher, and essayist. He was a vigorous advocate of civil liberties. He grew up in Concord Massachusetts. Thoreau became good friends with the famous writer Waldo Emerson during his time at Harvard.

Thoreau Involved in the Transcendentalist movement, this was one of the most significant literary movements of the 19 th century. Wrote an essay titled “Civil Disobedience” Most famous work is “Walden: or, Life in the Woods”. This is a recording of a period in his life which he lived alone on Walden Pond for two years.

Death He dies on May 6 th His poems and letters to Emerson were published posthumously. Thoreau remains a symbol of civil disobedience and isolation.
