Transportation (Ch 24)  Ch 24 Review Notes:  What is transportation?  All acts that relocate humans or their possessions.  Transportation systems are:

Transportation (Ch 24)  Transportation Systems: Land Water Air Space

Transportation  Vehicles are technological artifacts designed to carry people and cargo on pathways.  Ch. 25 Transportation Vehicles  Vehicular Systems: Structural Propulsion Control Suspension Guidance

Transportation  What is structural?  Cargo must be protected from the weather, damage, and theft.  A physical frame provides space and covering.  What is Propulsion?  It is the force that moves the cargo.  Can be simple as a pedal and chain or complex as motors and jet engines.

Transportation  What is suspension?  It is the proper support for the vehicle.  Wheels, axles, hull of a ship, and wings.  What is guidance?  Directions to a destination, speed, location are just a few things to know  What is control?  How fast or where you can go.

Transportation  Land Transportation Vehicles.  What types of structures are there? (p.479)  The different propulsion types are? Internal Combustion Engine Diesel Manual Transmission Automatic Transmission Diesel-Electric (railroads) Electrical (railroads and bus)

Transportation  Suspension for Vehicles are: Wheels Axles Springs and shocks  Guidance and Control: Directions to location What limitation are there to get to that location?

Transportation  Water Transportation Systems  What types of structures would there be?  What different types of propulsion is there?  Suspension plays a part, yes or no?  Is there a control systems limiting this mode of transportation?

Transportation  Air and Space: Structures are wings, rockets, and shuttle Propulsion comes from jet engines, rocket motors, and props, or propeller. Guidance and control would be captain in control of flying and has limited control of where he can go.

Transportation  Next you will learn about Ch. 26, which continues to discuss transportation.
