3.1.3 – Making informed decisions; Cultural and social factors Learning objectives To understand different roles and pathways in sport. To be able to explain the different sport related courses available to an individual. To be able to name jobs associated to Physical Education. To describe the cross curricular links achieved through PE.

There are many different roles in sport which can encourage all students to get involved. Some individuals may choose to perform as part of a team whereas others may prefer to leader or coach. Roles and pathways in sport TASK: Take 1 of the following roles in sport and describe the skills you need to perform it: Club chairman Team coach Manager Events organiser

There are many different levels of involvement in sport and numerous career paths. Careers and pathways in sport Careers and pathways Performer Statistical Analysis: Collecting data and analysing it Physiotherapy Green keeper or grounds men Personal Trainer Teacher/Coach Sports management

There are numerous nationally recognised courses associated to sport. The nature of each course differs greatly in terms of knowledge and experienced gained. Some courses are listed below: Sport related courses and qualifications GCSE PE: Full or short course. Involves practical and theoritical components. BTEC national diploma: Completed in units and has a bigger coursework element. NVQ: Specific qualifications for sports development.

Sports leaders courses: Involves an element of running or organising sporting events or festivals.

There are many different links with physical education. Some subjects have a direct link to PE (the human body in science) and others are indirectly linked (ICT and communication skills) Cross curricular possibilities Cross curricular links ICT – performance data, video and stills analysis Geography – Climate and terrain effects. Art – Visual representation Maths – Data input Music – sporting themes Health awareness Science – anatomy and physiology
