ERIC CARLE By: Kendra Kaness

CARLE’S LIFE Carle was born in Syracuse, New York in Then he moved with his parents at the age of 6 to Germany where he went to school. Then graduated from an Art school in a town called Stuttgart in Germany. Then in 1952 he followed his dreams to go back to America to live. Then Carle found a job as a Graphic Designer for The New York Times. And then was a Art Director for an advertising agency for many years.

CARLE’S WRITING LIFE Carle’s first book he collaborated with Bill Martin Jr. to create the book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What do you see? This started Carle’s real career because then he continued to keep writing books. His next book was 1,2,3 to the Zoo. Then followed the very popular book The Very Hungry Caterpillar. All his art work was created in collage form using hand-painted papers and very bright colors. While also adding in lights and noises to make the book seem like a toy.
