Victory in Jesus

I heard an old, old story, how a Savior came from glory, how He gave His life on Calvary to save a wretch like me;

I heard about His groaning, of His precious blood’s atoning, then I repented of my sins and won the victory.

O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever O victory in Jesus, my Savior, forever! He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;

He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him. He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea; I heard about a mansion He has built for me in glory And I heard about the streets of gold beyond the crystal sea;

about the angels singing and the old redemption story, And some sweet day I’ll sing up there the song of victory.

O victory in Jesus, my Savior, Forever O victory in Jesus, my Savior, Forever! He sought me and bought me with His redeeming blood;

He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him He loved me ere I knew Him, and all my love is due Him. He plunged me to victory beneath the cleansing flood.

Confidence in God 1 John Part 5 As we discussed in the last lesson, we are children of God, the Father of Creation. Being children of the King, we have confidence in our Father’s love and provision. In today’s lesson we will affirm that we can be certain of our eternal life, that God hears and answers our prayers, that He protects us from the evil one, we will deepen our own understanding of God, and of our secured place in Jesus.   1 John Part 5

That We Might Have Fellowship With Him - 1 John 1:3 5 Purposes of I John That We Might Have Fellowship With Him - 1 John 1:3 “what we have seen and heard we proclaim to you also, that you also may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.”

That We Might Have Joy - 1 John 1:4 5 Purposes of I John That We Might Have Joy - 1 John 1:4  ”And these things we write, so that our joy may be made complete.”

5 Purposes of I John That We Do Not Sin - 1 John 2:1  ” 1 My little children, I am writing these things to you that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous;

That We Might Have Victory - 1 John 2:25 5 Purposes of I John That We Might Have Victory - 1 John 2:25  ” 25 And this is the promise which He Himself made to us: eternal life.

5 Purposes of I John That We Might Know - 1 John 5:13 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, in order that you may know that you have eternal life.

1 John 5:13-15, 18-20 13 These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life. 14 This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15 And if we know that He hears us in whatever we ask, we know that we have the requests which we have asked from Him.

1 John 5:13-15, 18-20 18 We know that no one who is born of God sins; but He who was born of God keeps him and the evil one does not touch him. 19 We know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one. 20 And we know that the Son of God has come, and has given us understanding, in order that we might know Him who is true, and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

Promises for God’s Children Forgiveness I am writing to you, little children, because your sins have been forgiven you for His name’s sake. 1 John 2:12 Knowledge I am writing to you, fathers, because you have known him who has been from the beginning. 1 John 2:13a Victory I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one. 1 John 2:14b Forgiveness This encouragement was written not to just anyone, but to those who are new additions to the family of God. John wrote to those just beginning in their walk with God, children in the Spirit, encouraging them to remain hopefully and joyful because they have assurance that their sins have been forgiven and washed clean by God because of their faith in Jesus. Previously in this letter, John wrote, “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9). As children of the living God, all we have to do is to confess our sins to our Father and turn our hearts to Him, and He will forgive and purify us, wiping our slate clean, so to speak. Knowledge This particular verse is addressed to the “fathers” of the church. Fathers are those believers who have continued in the faith for long enough to be able to teach and instruct and counsel others in their faith. Though they are seasoned believers, they are still growing spiritually every day in their walk with God, and they are to share their increasing knowledge with those around them. Victory The “young men” addressed here means those who are maturing in their faith, but are no longer brand new Christians. They’ve walked with God for a while, but still have so much more to learn. They can disciple brand new believers to an extent, but are also receiving instruction from those who have been saved longer than themselves. What are you doing to insure victory for the next generation?

Peace for God’s Children Clear Conscience We will know by this, that we are of the truth, and will assure our heart before Him in whatever our hearts condemn us; for God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 1 John 3:19-20 Confidence at His Return Now, little children, abide in Him, so that when He appears, we may have confidence and not shrink away from Him in shame at His coming. 1 John 2:28 Clear Conscience If we start feeling condemnation or guilt or shame because of our past sins that we have repented of, the Bible reminds us that God is bigger than anything our heart tries to throw at us and bigger than the demons of shame and condemnation. If He has forgiven us—of which we can be sure based on the promises in His word—then we must trust that we are forgiven, because we are not holier than God. God knows everything in our hearts and minds (see Psalm 139), so He can see if there is any unclean way within us. Because He loves us wants us to be pure and holy, He will make known to us any sin that is present inside of us by the convicting power of His Holy Spirit. When this happens, we can simply repent and turn our hearts back to Him. Confidence at His Return In Matthew 24:45-46, Jesus began a story, "Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns.” In this illustration, the children of God are the servants and Jesus is our Master. He has instructed us in the ways of God, and we are expected to walk in them and continue walking in them until He returns, so that we do not have to be ashamed at His appearing.

Eternal Guarantee Eternal Life Everlasting Love By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 1 John 4:13 Everlasting Love We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. 1 John 4:16 Eternal Life Our Father, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit have all been around forever and will continue to live forever. That unquenchable Spirit that raised Jesus to life is the same one that lives inside of us, guaranteeing us life forever with God. This verse is very encouraging because it confirms that we can be certain of our salvation and of our eternal life in heaven. John writes “We know…” We know without a doubt that, if we live in Jesus, He lives in us and guarantees our place in heaven. Everlasting Love If God is eternal and He is love, we can be sure not only of our eternal life, but also of His unending, unchanging love for us. If we continue in the ways of God, we will walk in love and live in Him. If we live in Him, His love lives inside of us. His love is so great and incomprehensible to our human minds, that there is more than enough for any problem we may encounter, and there is enough inside of us to share with everyone around us. No matter how low or discouraged we feel, we can be certain of God’s everlasting love for us. He gave His Son to die in our place, He loved us so much, and nothing should be able to shake our confidence in that love.

1 John 4:13-18 13 By this we know that we abide in Him and He in us, because He has given us of His Spirit. 14 We have seen and testify that the Father has sent the Son to be the Savior of the world. 15 Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. 16 We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him.

1 John 4:13-18 17 By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love.

God is Our Strength He lives inside us and shines through us even though we are still here on earth His love burns in us and we are being made complete and perfect in Him as we walk with Him We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.   We live in God even as our bodies are in the world. Though we are here, we do not have to conform to it but need to keep ourselves in God so that He remains in us, shining through us. Love is being made complete in us and perfected in us as we live in Him and walk according to His ways each day.
