Myth Goddess of Spring, Was late in bringing the end of winter. When she did return, she saw a small bird on the ground, With her wings frozen, she was now unable to fly. Feeling guilty, Eostre changed the bird into a hare, giving it the gift of speed to quickly escape its enemies. Eostre also gave the hare the power to lay eggs in colors of the rainbow but only once a year.
Eostre in Today Eostre’s symbols have become the symbols of Easter: Rabbits/hares and eggs. Another spelling of Eostre’s name is Eastre; the name of “Easter” is derived from this.
