A Small Idea...

Project zOur objective is to make a portable device that will transparently control devices that are attached or running on the personal computer.

The Idea zUse radio transceiver to communicate between PC and handheld PC zThe handheld PC will be able to manage certain external devices and internal software on the PC

Application zCD Player zIdentification Card zDevice Controller

CD Player zBe able to play the CD Player on the PC from the handheld PC

Identification Card zBe able to: ystore information on the card yretrieve and update information on the card from the handheld PC ydownload the information from the handheld PC to the database on the PC

Device Controller zSimulate applications that can be connected to the serial or parallel ports on the PC zTest the simulation by connecting a LED to the different ports and controlling the LED by the handheld PC

Equipment zNEC MobilePro 800 zGB Series Radio Transceiver zCyberflex Smart Card zReflex 20 Smart Card Reader zCables (serial, parallel) zSoftware (C++, Java)

NEC MobilePro 800 zHandheld PC running Win CE z131MHz NEC VR4121 MIPS z24MB ROM/32MB RAM zUSB/Serial/VGA out zType II PC Card Slot zTouch Screen with Stylus Pen z9.6”W x 7.5”D x 1.0”H

GB Series Radio Transceiver zFrequency : MHz, MHz (Multiple Bands) zComputer Interface :RS 232 zBaud Rate : ,600 Baud zProtocol : CSMA zOptional : Forward Error Correction (Hamming Code)

Cyberflex Smart Card zLooks like a credit card zContains microprocessor for processing capability and memory for storing instructions and data zProgram in Java

Reflex 20 (Smart Card Reader) zSupports ISO 7816 Smart Cards zBit sampling and error correction zPCMIA Type II Interface zSupported Data Speed: 38.4K bps zWin CE supported z10cm x 5.5 cm x 0.4 cm

Cost NEC MobilePro 800 $999 2 Radio TransceiverNA Reflex 20 $99 Smart CardNA Level ConverterNA Total$1098+

Software Work (80%) zPC Software yDevice Controller for port communication (Serial, Parallel) zScanner ySmart Card Program yApplication to store Smart Card Data in handheld PC, send the data to PC database and store it in the PC database

zCD yRevision of CD Player source code yHandheld PC’s application to control PC’s CD Player

Hardware (20%) zConnection of all equipment zBuild a simulated application that connects a LED to the different ports

Team Member Responsibilities zChris yConnection of LED to different ports yMake applications that light up the LED yRadio Frequency Communication (sending and receiving data) yApplication on the handheld PC that sends appropriate data

zVanessa yDevice Controller for the PC that reads data from the serial port and sends that data to the right application yRadio Frequency Communication - application that sends and reads the right data through the radio

zKaori yRevision of CD Player Code yProgramming Smart Card yApplication that interprets the information sent by the reader yApplication on the PC that interprets data from the handheld PC
