ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Goals: The students will be able to explain the relationship between the quantity and quality of products and their price by shopping around in the student stores The students will be able to explain how competition between goods and services impacts the economy by the student run businesses they create. Objectives: Content/Knowledge: The students will be able to understand what it is like to start up a new business and how economy effects businesses. Process/Skills: The students will be able to organize a simple business plan and create their own business. Values/Dispositions: The students will be able to understand how the economy affects business which in return affects people.

ETE 335 Elementary Social Studies Lesson Gardner’s Multiple Intelligences Rationale: It is important for students to learn how the economy effects businesses and people. Standards: State – Illinois Common Core or Learning Standards 15.B.2b- Explain the relationship between the quantity of goods/services purchased and their price. 15.C.2b- Identify and explain examples of competition on the economy. National – NCSS Themes Productive resources are limited. Therefore, people cannot have all the goods and services that they want; as a result, they must choose some things and give up others. Competition among sellers lowers costs and prices, encouraging producers to produce more of what consumers are willing and able to buy. Competition among buyers increases prices and allocates good and services to those people.

Logical/Mathematical

Logical/Mathematical The activity for this lesson would be paying bills. Here they will work on their math skills and working with a budget. The materials needed for this activity would be fake bills, checks, pencils, pens and calculators. 19_pay-monthly-bills.html

Verbal/Linguistic The activity for this lesson would be to have the students come up with a 30 second commercial advertising their business or product they are trying to sell. Materials for this lesson would be paper and pencil to write out commercial. Musical/Rhythmic For this activity the students will need to come up with a radio jingle to sell their product or support their business. Visual/Spatial For this assignment I will have my students create either a picture of what their business sign would look like or packaging for their product they are trying to sell. Resources needed would be pictures of packaging for similar items and some pictures of business signs. Body/Kinesthetic The activity for this assignment would be the actual shopping/selling of products from the student stores. This is when students will have to browse around the stores and decided what they want to spend their money on. Interpersonal For this activity I would have my students write about their experience and interaction with the sales people in the student stores. They would have to rate them based on a scale and explain why they are getting that grade.
