Hypothesis  As the wind speed increases, the temperature drops

Items used  An all-in-one instrument that can measure things like temperature, wind speed, humidity and air pressure.  Within that, we used:  Anemometer  To measure the wind speed  Thermometer  To measure the temperature

Procedure Summary  We would be going to strategic locations across the Hwa Chong Campus on the 29 th January and the 4 th February from around 11am to 12am to find out how the wind speed can affect the temperature

Locations  Top floor of Multi-storey Car park  Open air fire hydrant  Garden outside the printing centre  At the tree stump  Open space between the canteen and Block C  At the centre of the semicircle  Terraces  On the ninth step  Field  At the flag pole  Running Track  At the starting point  Fountain area outside General Office  At the corner of the fountain nearest to LT3

Procedure  Get to the specific location  Make sure that this is the exact same location for both days

Procedure (Wind)  Use the anemometer to measure the wind speed  Anemometer must be in front of the user and the user must face the wind  Anemometer should be slightly higher than the user, to make sure that no wind is obstructed

Procedure (Temperature)  Use the thermometer to measure the surrounding temperature  Let the reading stabilize before taking it  Make sure the height at which the temperature is taken remains constant, because heat from the ground might interfere with the results.

Evaluation  Is the hypothesis true?  Yes, since we can see a trend that as the wind speed increases, the temperature decreases  Unusual Data?  There are lots of unusual readings we had, but these are probably caused by our lack of much precaution and of proper equipment  The unusual reading might have also been caused by the varying weather conditions such as presence of cloud cover

Problems Faced  Difficult to get a constant reading because of fluctuating wind speeds and temperatures due to varying intensity of sunlight  The instruments used to collect the data was not very reliable and restarted often

Learning Points  The higher the wind speed, the lower the temperature of an area  The intensity of sunlight and proximity to nearby buildings also affects the temperature  The temperature nearer the ground is hotter because there is more heat radiating form the ground

Questions  Does humidity affect the temperature of an area?  Is wind nearer the ground stronger or wind higher in the air?
