Christian Sonntag TU Dortmund / euTeXoo GmbH Support Action CPSoS Platforms as a Driver for Smart Industrial Cyber-physical Systems of Systems Support Action CPSoS Platforms as a Driver for Smart Industrial Cyber-physical Systems of Systems Road2CPS Workshop on Platforms, Torino,

30 month Support Action ( ) Provides an exchange platform for Systems of Systems (SoS)-related projects and communities Focus on systems where large complex physical systems interact with computing and communication systems – Cyber-physical SoS Goal: Define a European research and innovation agenda on Cyber-physical Systems of Systems Project Overview Road2CPS Workshop on Platforms, Torino,

3 CPSos Overview and Key Research and Innovation Challenges Torino Cyber-physical Systems of Systems

4 Key challenges for CPSoS are similar across industrial domains Platforms can solve key challenges in several domains to enable smart industrial CPSoS Platforms for CPSoS Transportation Logistics Process Industries Manufacturing Electric grids Road2CPS Workshop on Platforms, Torino, Roadmap:

5 CPSoS engineering involves lots of different models – Different formalisms, different domains, different resolutions → Needed: Collaborative model platforms – Faster model development, better model re-use, automated modelling – Meta-modelling, model management, model consistency – Model exchange, legacy model integration, trust in models between competing companies – Model maintenance and adaptation – System-wide multi-resolution models of CPSoS – Full-life-cycle modeling – Economic / socio-technical modelling CPSoS Platform Challenges Modeling, Simulation, Model Management

6 Smart CPSoS must be highly dynamic, interconnected, flexible – Highly distributed, can span across countries – Quick adaptation to market needs, customer demands CPSoS are heterogeneous, with a deluge of systems from many different providers → Needed: Platforms for the seamless integration and reconfiguration of CPSoS components – Integrating, handling, and processing large amounts of data from a myriad of sources → Basis for “smart” applications (situational awareness, real-time monitoring, data-based system operation, …) – Reference architectures, open platforms and easy-to-test interfaces for plug-and-play integration, live removal, quick reconfiguration CPSoS Platform Challenges Semantic Systems Integration

7 Continuous evolution - separation between the design/engineering phases and operational stage is disappearing Heterogeneous infrastructures, lots of different actors High flexibility, frequent dynamic reconfigurations → Needed: Full-life-cycle collaborative engineering platforms – Specification, adaptation, cross-layer design, evolution, and maintenance of requirements, models, and components CPSoS Platform Challenges Integrated CPSoS Engineering Road2CPS Workshop on Platforms, Torino, Traditional Engineering Iterative Engineering (DANSE project)
