WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning Key Expectations for English  Use subordinate clauses to write complex sentences.  Use passive voice where appropriate.  Use expanded noun phrases to convey complicated information concisely (e.g. The fact that it was raining meant the end of sports day).  Use a sentence structure and layout matched to requirements of text type.  Use semi-colon, colon or dash to mark the boundary between independent clauses.  Use colon to introduce a list & semi colon within a list.  Use correct punctuation of bullet points.  Use hyphens to avoid ambiguity.  Use full range of punctuation matched to requirements of text type.  Use wide range of devices to build cohesion within and across paragraphs.  Use paragraphs to signal change in time, scene, action, mood or person.

WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning Key Expectations for Maths  Use negative numbers in context & calculate intervals across zero.  Compare & order numbers up to 10,000,000.  Identify common factors, common multiples & prime numbers.  Round any whole number to a required degree of accuracy.  Identify the value of each digit to 3 decimal places.  Use knowledge of order of operations to carry out calculations involving four operations.  Add & subtract fractions with different denominators & mixed numbers.  Multiply simple pairs of proper fractions, writing the answer in the simplest form.  Divide proper fractions by whole numbers.  Calculate % of whole number.

WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning SATS 9 th May 2016 Reading paper SPAG- Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar 2 Maths papers: both non-calculator. No level 6 paper at the moment. New arithmetic paper: replaces mental maths.

WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning SATS preparation Daily arithmetic or mental maths. Weekly times tables tests. Twice weekly handwriting exercises. Weekly spelling and grammar lesson. Grammar focus each week in English. SATS preparation throughout the year.

WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning Homework Expectations  Mathletics is our online Maths homework tool.  Daily reading is still important and we encourage children to read widely.  Children are welcome to read ‘home’ books and record their reading in their reading diary.  Children will often be given spelling homework based on a spelling rule. Spelling tests are based around our project learning.  Project homework has changed. Children choose six of the nine homework activities to do over the half term. Some may take longer than one week. Please send a note if your child needs longer than one week to complete a task.

WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning PE expectations  Indoor PE: Shorts and t-shirt with plimsolls (optional).  Outdoor PE: Trainers in a plastic bag in case of wet weather. Please include jogging bottoms for colder weather.  One session of indoor PE and one session of outdoor PE per week.  If possible, please get children’s ears pierced during the school holidays to avoid missing PE sessions.  We must have a letter if your child is unable to participate in PE. They will be required to observe the class and make notes.

WELCOME Shottermill Junior School Open Morning Equipment for School  We would like children to try to fit all their belongings into one small bag or rucksack – our cloakroom space is limited. PE kits should be in a small drawstring bag and should be in school every day.  Children can bring one small pencil case containing the following items: pencil, rubber, long ruler, coloured pencils, pencil sharpener, whiteboard pen and glue stick  All children should have a named water bottle, which they will take home at the end of the day to be washed. PLEASE NAME ALL BELONGINGS!
