What it is: ◦ GHG stands for Greenhouse gas ◦ An accounting of direct emissions due to University activities ◦ Emphasis on energy and electricity use What it is not: ◦ Should not be equated with sustainability, which has a much broader scope ◦ Does not account for many indirect or embedded emissions due to activities
The UAlbany community emits over 86,000 metric tons of CO2 equivalent! That is equal to approximately 5.6 metric tons per person. The majority of our emissions comes from heat and electricity use

There are many initiatives during the year that help bring awareness and reduce our impact on the environment. These include: ◦ Fall energy campaign ◦ Empire Commons bill program ◦ Destination Green (Sustainable Transportation Day) ◦ Campus sustainability Day ◦ International Day of Climate Action (350.org) ◦ National Teach In on Climate change ◦ Recyclemania ◦ Earth Day ◦ Clean up day ◦ Give and Go ( formerly known as Dump and Run)
Take advantage of program money available through the Student Success grants! RA’s can get involved by running the following programs ◦ Conduct energy audits in rooms, using the Kill-A-Watt device ◦ Running energy awareness sessions (informational brochures available) ◦ Distributing compact florescent lights (CFL’s), bulbs and informational packets available ◦ Holding awareness sessions about sustainable transportation offerings (materials available) ◦ Educational programs about the benefits of recycling and precycling (waste reduction)
You can also help by: ◦ Getting students to attend planned events ◦ Getting students who are interested in volunteering to join the council ◦ Communicating programs ◦ Being enthusiastic about the green scene
