Agri ProFocus Agri-Hub Ethiopia Role and mandate of Working Groups in our Agri-Hub

Working Groups set the agenda in AHE The mandate of the Working Groups is to set the agenda for the Agri-Hub and to shape the implementation. They have to ensure that the Hub does what its’ members want it to do. Topics that are potentially interesting for members seem: Gender in Value Chains (ongoing) Access to Finance (ongoing) Cooperative development (new) Outgrowers schemes or Contract Farming (new) …………….. Please come forward with more options.

Task and responsibilities of WG’s The task description of the Working Groups is to: 1.Define the thematic focus 2.Define an agenda in terms of themes and activities 3.Budgeting and mobilising funds (in cooperation with secretariat) 4.Responsible for the content of planned events (secretariat does logistics and administration) 5.Report on progress and events to Steering Committee

Potential types of activities Joint Learning: –Exchange of experiences –Workshops/ seminars –Coaching and training trajectories –……………. Joint Action –Propose Themes for the Call for Proposals of the FSRE –Write (position) papers (e.g. towards the RNE) –Write books, leaflets or concepts notes –…. Joint Resource Mobilisation –Develop common proposals for the FSRE or FDOV, etc. –……

Organisational matters Each WG elects a chairperson who convenes and chairs the meetings and a member who will join the Agri-Hub Steering Committee. The budget for activities has to come from contributions of members which can subsequently be doubled by the Hub. The AHE secretariat supports the Working Groups: making minutes of meetings, organise logistics of events, assist in budgeting and fund raising, and taking care of administrative issues.

Join a Working Group of your preference Elect a chairperson for the meeting today Discuss in the WG: – The themes / specific topics that you want to address – The type of activities that you want to undertake – Ideas for fund raising – Membership: who else could join? How to invite them? – Chairperson and representative for Steering Committee – Suggestions for priorities for the FSRE Fund – Decide when and where you will meet next time.

Contract Farming WG Theme: Contract Farming Topics –Trusts building / communication/ –Contractual relationships / content/ enforcement/ –Embed in local development setting/ link dev. partners Initial activities –Inventory of what was done before (AHE, SNV, AJ, Adil) –Group on our Ning: manuals / publications etc. –Look for co-funding; e.g. with SNV Ten members Yerusalem from SNV will chair the WG Hannah of AJ will join the Steering Committee Next meeting mid-February
