WHAT IS A MOUNTAIN  A mountain is a huge landform that stretches above the surrounding land in a limited area, usually in the form of a peak. A mountain is generally steeper than a hill. Mountains are created through tectonic forces or volcanism. These forces can raise the surface of the earth. Mountains erode slow through the forces of rivers, weather conditions, and glaciers. A couple of mountains are isolated summits, but most occur in large mountain ranges.

MOUNT EVEREST  Mount Everest is earth’s highest mountain, the elevation is 29,029.  The first accent was May 29, 1953 by Tenzing Norgay, and Edmund Hillary.  Mount Everest, also known in Nepal as Sagarmāthā and in Tibet as Chomolungma. It is located in the Mahalangur section of the Himalayas.  Over 200 people have died trying to climb Mount Everest.

K2 MOUNTAIN IN ASIA  It is the second highest mountain in the world, at an elevation of 28,251.  Also known as Chhogori/Qogir, Ketu/Kechu, and Mount Godwin-Austen.  The first assent was in July of 1954 by Lino Lacedelli and Achille Compagnoni.  1 in every 4 people that attempt to climb this mountain die trying.

MOUNT MCKINLEY  It is the highest mountain peak in North America, at an elevation of 20,322.  The first accent was June 7, 1913 by Harry Karstens, Robert Tatum, Walter Harper, Hudson Stuck.  Around 120 people have perished on Mount McKinley.
