4. CONCLUSION INTERDICIPLINARY WORKSHOP / SHOPS IN THE OLD CITY ŞÜKÜFE KOCABAŞ GÖKHAN VAROL This study helps us to understand the recent situation of the shops in Old City of Nicosia. We realized that, the character of the shops in Lokmacı and Arasta Streets are similar to each other. However, although they are located at the centre of the old city, they lost their historical and cultural value. A few of them renovated in a totally different way without considering history and culture of the society. Most of the shops in Kyrenia Road Street were new- constructed and again they have different types of facade organizations. As a result, cultural translation is very weak. Generally we could not see any cultural signs either on the facade or at the interior spaces. In our opinion, those shops are located at valuable streets and they should respect to history and culture with their views and attitudes. ARCH 501
