Working with a Partner Here is how I will sign PARTNER Literally it means SHARE+PERSON, The person you share with! Here are 2 other signs for partner you may see in the Deaf community (Watch the teacher)

Where is My Partner? Your partner is the person sitting next to you, sometimes across from you or depending on the classroom configuration. The teacher will switch-it-up weekly to ensure you have the opportunity to practice with various partners.

What Do I DO? When working with a partner you sit straight and tall, nothing on your table that will obstruct your view. Look your partner in the eyes – eye contact is very important in ASL. Refrain from mouthing or talking.

What if there’s an odd number of students? Join in with the partner next to you. Most times this will end up being a group of 3.

Anything Else? YES! Partnering allow you to practice this visual language in class. Practice everything 2 or more times. If you get done early, practice again! Partners help and support each other. If you get stuck, ask your partner. Don’t bother the people next to you, they are busy practicing. Raise your hand to ask the teacher for help.
