Social Psychology Research into conformity

Learning Objective  All of you will be able to… - Outline Asch’s key research on conformity - Identify strengths and weaknesses of this research  Some of you will be able to… - Discuss Asch’s study in terms of ethical considerations - Identify and explain which type of conformity is being shown in the above research - Apply the study’s findings to real-life examples of conformity

Recap of definitions conformity  Which type of conformity are the examples showing????  Make sure you can explain why you’ve made that choice – there’s not necessarily any right or wrong answer! BONUS POINTS! Which type of social influence is being demonstrated in the examples?

Asch (1951) research into conformity   Watch the video clip which shows a re-enactment of Asch’s famous study

Research into conformity  Read the study carried out by Asch provided  Highlight the key points  Summarise these to add to your template in your booklets (no more than 5 key points per section!!!)  EVALUATION – answer the questions on the next page – use these to identify strengths and weaknesses of the research.  REAL-LIFE APPLICATION – read up on Kitty Genovese scenario and answer attached questions.
