Baroque

 Baroque music was from 1600 to  There was elaborate detail and ornamentation.  The term baroque was given to the time period during the Classical era.  Baroque means imperfect pearl.  Many composers composed music for instruments alone.

PPopular instrumental forms were sonata, concerto, toccata and fugue. SShowed contrast between different instruments, sections and levels of volume. PPopular stage music were opera, ballet and masque. PPopular dramatic choral works were cantatas and oratorios. MMany musicians earned a living as employees of churches, royalty or wealthy families. TThe baroque period came to an end with the death of Bach.
