Inca Empire The Incas had the most important achievements in Mesoamerica. They lived in the Andes Mountains and still planted crops! They maintained control over 2,500 miles and still had one unified language. The Aztecs may have been good at mathematics, but the Incas engineering surpassed even their calendars.

Support #1 The Inca empire stretched out over 2,500 miles. They had an amazing road system making it possible to maintain an empire that big. They even built stairways into mountains to finish roads!

Support #2 They also lived in the Andes Mountains, making it hard to plant large amounts of crops. So the Incas built a system of terraces. For irrigation they built canals that would bring water up to the top of the terrace.

Support #3 The Incas spoke one unified language, Quechua. They didn’t have a writing system so they used quipus. Quipus were sets of strings with knots or different colors to represent numbers. In fact, almost 10 million people in South America still speak Quechua today!

Conclusion The Incas achievements top the Aztecs and the Mayans. They maintained an empire over 2,500 miles long, and kept everyone in the empire speaking one single language! They also lived in the Andes Mountains, but they still planted crops and used irrigation. This is why the Incas had the best empire in Mesoamerica from 1200 C.E to about 1550 C.E.
