Anatomy Chapter 1 test review

Test review What is Anatomy?

The study of the structure of the body, what the parts look like and how they are arranged.

What is Physiology?

The study of functions, what the body parts do and how they do it.

How are a part’s function dependent on it’s form and it’s form dependent on it’s function?

How a part is anatomically designed is directly related to its job.

What is homeostasis?

It is the property of a system that regulates its internal environment and tends to maintain a stable, constant condition.

Give an example of a process or system that is controlled by homeostasis or helps control homeostasis.

Body temperature, blood pressure, blood sugar

What are 11 characteristics of life?

Movement, responsiveness, growth, reproduction, respiration, digestion, absorption, assimilation, circulation, excretion, composed of cells

Provide nine levels of organization in an organism from simplest to most complex.

Atom, molecule, macromolecule, organelle, cell, tissue, organ, organ system, organism

Know the terms of relative position

Superior, inferior, superficial, deep, posterior, anterior, proximal, distal, medial, lateral, ipsilateral, contralateral

Practice of terms The mouth is what to the nose?

inferior

The intestines are what to the skin?

deep

The patella (knee cap) is what to the toes?

Proximal or superior

Your ears are what to the lips?

lateral

The heart is what to the lungs?

medial

The lungs are what to the diaphragm?

superior

The spleen is what to the stomach?

Lateral or ipsilateral

Know the major body cavities and an organ found in each. Know the planes and cross sections of the body. Know the 9 abdominopelvic regions and an organ found in each. Know the 4 abdominopelvic quadrants.

Name an organ in the cranial cavity.

Brain

Name an organ in the thoracic cavity.

Heart, lungs

Name an organ in the abdominal cavity.

Spleen, stomach, liver, gall bladder, kidneys, pancreas, (small intestine, large intestine)

Name an organ in the pelvic cavity.

Urinary bladder, uterus, ovaries, prostate (small intestine, large intestine)

What is in the vertebral cavity?

Spinal cord

Label the regions of the abdominopelvic cavity.

Label the quadrants of the abdominopelvic cavity.

Label the body planes/cuts.
