Hosea Lesson 4

 Hosea 1 – 3 Israel’s spiritual harlotry/whoredom  Hosea 4-6:3 Spiritual harlotry kept them from knowing God/Lack of knowledge  Hosea 6:4 – 11:7 Mixed with the nations, swallowed up by them  Pattern: Sin, punishment, return

 Theme?  Vs. 1-4 Turned to idols during Jeroboam’s reign. Golden calves set up with priests  History: Ahab was worse as he added worship to Baal  God: loved, called, taught, healed, led and fed but they didn’t know it  Vs. 5-7 No repentance – captivity

 Vs God had compassion toward them  Admah and Zeboliim: two cities destroyed with Sodom and Gomorrah  Vs Hope!!!!  Chapter 12 Theme: Return and Wait for God  Pattern of this last message: Israel’s sin, God’s punishment, Hope for the future  This is the last message: God’s call to return to Him

 God is faithful: Ephraim and Judah are not  God: Reminded them of their history and His faithfulness to them  “I have been your God since Egypt” Vs. 9  Sent prophets to them beginning with Moses  They boasted in their riches vs. 8  Bethel: Jacob found God but now it had become a place of idolatry  They would not listen to God’s prophets vs. 14

 Ephraim was once powerful, but he forgot God and became proud  Gen. 48 Ephraim and Manasseh. Firstborn blessing was given to Ephraim  Num. 13 and Joshua 1 Joshua was from the tribe of Ephraim!!! He replaced Moses!!!  I Kings Jeroboam was an Ephraimite  God promised him 10 tribes to rule over IF he would listen to God’s commands and walk in them

 Jeroboam set up golden calves in Bethel and Dan with false priests and festivals  I Kings 16 Ahab was worse than Jeroboam because he added Baal worship  13:4 He is their only Savior  13:6 They forgot Him and became proud  13:10-11 Gave them a king, and He took him away (Dan. 2:21)

 13:14 and I Cor. 15:50-57  I Corinthians is positive, Hosea is not  13:15-16 Assyrian captivity was coming and it was going to be terrible  Theme: No Savior but Me

 Theme: Hope Return and I will heal  Vs. 1 Hope for that return  14:2 Take Words!!!  I John 1 Confess your sins, God will forgive  Is. 55, Lamen. 3 and Micah 7:  Seek Him; call on Him while He is near  Forsake wickedness; He will have compassion  His compassions never cease; new every morning  None like Him Great is His Faithfulness

 Deut. 4 Call on Me with all your heart, I will not fail  Is. 42 – 43 They will not be destroyed. I will be with you when you walk through the fire  Is. 43: 5-7 This includes ME!!!!  Jer. 30:23- 31:14 The remnant of Israel will be gathered. Their mourning will be turned into joy

 Is my pattern: sin, punishment, return?  Have I committed spiritual harlotry?  Is there hope?  Have I forgotten God in my prosperity?
