Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA affective : the impact... how things are characterized by emotions... is it the ligth that is brigth or; is it the idea?

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA effective : having an efect; able to bring about the result intended...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA efficient : maximum output to input... no waste, no haste... easy and to the point...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA convergence : it is the way you change it, anything... the way you feel about it... like the sunset by the sea; sun gives the light, sea changes it... it is still the light that water reflects...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA conveyance : it is the book you read... the information given... just a one way road...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA ambient : medium... that surrounds, envelopes, encircles... makes one feel inside... internet; travelling without moving... can see people, communicate with them; see, learn new things...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA appliance : quick and easy way to have it done... on... job done... off... that easy...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA wearable : that enbodies with the user... suitable to wear... if the computer fits... wear it...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA portable : computer anywhere... somewhere... everywhere... first they occupied a complete room, they got smaller and there was space for people after a while we were able to have them on our desks... now we can have them everywhere...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA shared : open resource... to participate in, use, enjoy, experience... jointly or in turns...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA surface : the outer boundary of anything... the external geometry... yet it is what you make of it...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA access : ability or the right to; approach... enter... exit... make use of...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA service : The easiest way of having things done... being served... it can either be a work done by one or a group; if it benefits other... it is service...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA actual : time... actual; even if it’s virtual... seconds vs. beats...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA smart : a given capability of doing something... no improvement... no inference... no logic...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA intelligent : having the power of reasoning; inference; the ability to cope with new problems...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA nanotechnology : as a collective term refers to technological developments on the nanometer scale, usually nm. (one nanometer equals one thousandth of a micrometer or one millionth of a millimeter.) the term sometimes applies to any microscopic technology. due to the small size at which nanotechnology operates, physical phenomena not observed at the macroscopic scale dominate. these nanoscale phenomena include quantum size effects and short range forces such as van der Waals forces. furthermore the vastly increased ratio of surface area to volume promotes surface phenomena. since the complexity of computers is growing exponentially it is believed that it will develop into nanotechnology, i.e. molecular electronics, in the near future if Moore's law is to be upheld.

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA haptics : pertaining to the technology of touch. It is an emerging technology that promises to have wide reaching implications. sight and sound are two channels for communicating between computers and users; touch is a third channel. “touching" a desktop object with a traditional mouse pointer is unlike touching a physical object with a hand in an important way: the pointer provides visual feedback but no tactile sensation. people distinguish a remarkable range of sensations with their hands. a touch-enabled device such as a mouse, joystick, game pad, or other computer peripheral provides a variety of information through different tactile sensations and variations of intensity.

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA workstation : all in one concept... it is a computer/data processor itself... huge screens; one forms the desk surface, and other one forms the partition. both have sensors to keep track of the workstation ambiance, comfort level and etc. desk surface is touch-sense, force feedback... adding feeling to virtual workspace...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA e-wallet : works as an identity card; logs in when placed on desk... logs out when removed... synchronize it all... phonebook – contacts calendar – to do – reminder messages – notes it is the bag to carry around... it stores data; uploads data as it logs in, they appear as icons on the desk.

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA sharing/meeting : attending a meeting... workstation logs on to the meeting... each attendant appears on the screen, as if they are sitting on the same table; and meeting overrides the personal settings of workstation. perception will be more realistic, everyone will be on display according to their positioning. people will not be staring at you from divided screens, but sitting on the same table with you. file exchange will be performed with actions. a written document will be handed out, user will receive it on the desk, turn pages to read. sharing the same desk, users will feel actions going on the table...

Shared Surfaces in Future Workplaces. EUT 507 e. Ahmet Enis KAYA map : geometry of the city... where it all takes place... study, imagine, communicate, observe, find out, read, draw, try, think, study, write, compare, look around, understand, sketch, render, etc... not much done tough...
