Shiloh Elementary School Curriculum Night

Welcome to Third Grade! As a new school year starts And the summer fun ends; Hello! Welcome back! To our third grade friends. Have fun! Just relax! And have no fear! With people like you, We’ll have a great year!

Education: Graduated from Brenau University with a Masters in Early Childhood Education. This is my ninth year of teaching – 7 years at Alford Elementary School; 1 year at Shiloh Elementary School (2 years in second grade and 6 in third grade).

Personal Information: I was born and raised in Florida. I moved to Georgia 17 years ago. My husband and I currently live in Snellville Georgia. My children went to school in the Shiloh cluster. I have 3 children: Trevor, Jason, and Rachel

What do I find important in the classroom? Learning Thinking Applying Solving Questioning Participating Trying Respect Responsibility –“Tell me and I'll forget; show me and I may remember; involve me and I'll understand.” ~Chinese proverb

My Expectations: 3 Expectations (School wide rules) –Be Ready –Be Responsible –Be Respectful While I am teaching I expect students to: –Be actively listening, thinking, and participating in our discussion –Not disrupting the learning of others

Behavior – Positive Feedback Class Dojo - Passports – Behaviors (positive and/or redirecting in nature) will be written on the passport. Passports should be a nightly conversation between you and your child, so you are not surprised on Friday with anything – this will be our main communication link. (Did your passport get pulled today? Why? What did you learn from your choice?)

Math Language Arts Social Studies Science Textbooks for each curriculum area are provided for review. See your child’s teacher for assistance.

Homework minutes of homework daily (this should include reading daily) Reinforcing and enriching Academic Knowledge and Skills (AKS) Establishing independent study habits and self discipline.

Mastery of Academic Knowledge and Skills Progress Report Card will be sent home at the end of every quarter’s grading period. The envelope must be signed and returned. Grades can be checked through the parent or student portal. Grades averaged at the end of every quarter’s grading period.

Conduct and Work Habits Assessed weekly and recorded in the weekly folder. At the end of each quarter’s grading period, overall conduct and work habits are reviewed by the teacher and a grade will be determined.

Establish a homework routine with your child. Completing homework is your child’s responsibility. Check your child’s work for completion every day. Review and study for tests with your child.

Visitors are welcome. Students may eat lunch at a special table with you and with one friend. No fast food or soft drinks. Lunch time: 10:55-11:20 You may prepay for lunches with a check, cash, or online at

Ice Cream is available for $1.00 and students should pay for it in the morning. Students may also bring a healthy snack from home. No cookies, cakes, or chips. Water bottles only please.

Absences and Make-up Work Send in a signed note explaining why your child was absent. No note will result in an unexcused absence. A child missing a day of school due to an excused absence, may complete assignments when they return to school. If your child is absent two or more days due to an excused absence: -Missed work may be picked up and completed at home. Please call the school office first thing in the morning to make arrangements to pick up assignments and materials after school. Please refer to your student/parent handbook for what is considered an “excused absence.”

All transportation changes must be in writing. No s or phone calls, please.

Parent-teacher conferences are held on early release days. Other conferences will be held as needed. September 23 and 24, 2015 February 24 and 25, 2015

Testing Dates Georgia Milestones 4/19/ /29/2016 *Please be sure to have your child at school and on time each day.
