Further Education – a chance to up-skill in Vocational and General education subjects Higher Education – in partnership with other HE institutions we offer a range of Degree options Work Based Learning – undertaking qualifications within work based roles. Adult Community Learning – outreach provision to encourage those will little or no skills, offering those wishing to return to education, who are often lacking confidence, a chance to get back on the learning ladder.

Basic Skills 50% of the working-age population in Wales lack basic numeracy skills, a higher proportion than in any of the English regions apart from the north east. The average for England as a whole is 46%. 25% of the working-age population in Wales lack basic literacy skills, again a higher proportion than in any of the English regions. The average for England as a whole is 16%. (Skills and employment action plan, Welsh Assembly Government, 2005) Engagement is challenging Members of College staff deliver in discrete locations – in libraries across the two counties, church halls, partnership venues as ‘drop in’ provision Using unemployment drivers to engage the hardest to reach Signposting from Job Centres – Work Ready Skills Conditionality Referrals through partners who identify cohorts

Level 1… Units to embed adult literacy and numeracy in the context of Help a Child….. – Help a Child with Reading – Help a Child with Maths – Help a Child with Writing – Help a Child with Art and Craft – Help a Child to learn through play

Improved general skills… Skills to support children’s learning School based work experience Communication skills Literacy and numeracy Employability skills – Basic Welsh, First Aid Improved ICT skills Improved confidence More importantly… Progression to employment or Level 2 and Level 3 formal qualifications

Outcomes…Level 1 to Level 3 Attending 3 days per week Enrolments 12/13 – 189 students Successful Completion 12/13 – 87% Enrolments 13/14 – 197 students Average of 65% entering employment Basic Skills – at least 64% improved numeracy or literacy skills as a result of the course

Family Learning Designed to help children gain skills whilst the parents/carers are also gaining skills/knowledge and understanding Supporting the Basic Skills development of children by helping the parent to overcome their Basic Skills needs This is not parenting skills but provides examples of coping strategies Partnership with Schools and Local Education Authorities

Deaf Studies Provision Changing the opportunities available to Deaf individuals and Deaf Communities through education and training and resulting in a individuals within society which are Deaf/BSL aware and supportive in their everyday life A team of Deaf and hearing staff Established in 1990 Bespoke provision – supporting the communication rights of Deaf people across North Wales From Level 1 in British Sign Language (BSL) to Higher Education Degree Winners of NIACE Adult Learner group award Winners of NIACE Adult Learning and Democracy Award

Digital Literacy ICT and digital skills for personal and professional applications. Helping the older generation to – gain skills to access services and information online – to communicate electronically with friends and family. Supporting Welfare reform implications – No access to IT/Internet – Lack of skills to upload CVs and apply for jobs online Helping the long term unemployed – To learn office computing programmes – To better access job information online – To apply for jobs online – Improving their confidence for work
