a how-to

Do’s Read the slide/page and re-write in your own words Write down: definitions Important facts Examples References that help you (abbrev./pic./word assoc.)

Don’ts Write out the entire slide/page word-for-word Write nothing Make references that you won’t be able to decipher later Waste your time goofing off

Why notes? They are a learning tool and a study tool Point: to be able to look back and review the main points, definitions, and examples of a concept before a quiz, test, or essay.

Practice Noun: a person, place, thing, or idea Ex: Sally went to the market. (where is the noun?) Underline Sally, circle it, draw an arrow to her…and also to market draw a picture of a person (stick) and/or a lightbulb These are your references, and for some make this less boring…don’t take advantage of the fact that I'm letting you do this. I just want to help

For realsies Start a new title and date for SHR –or- Schoolhouse Rock!!! -or- POS –or- Parts of Speech Watch the video, write down the definition and as many examples as you can Draw something (optional) Make a connection, write down a lyric, something
