Interactive WhiteBoards on a Budget We Want Wii Motes! Julianne Curtis, Karen Limahai, Valarie Lo, Emily McMullan

We want a SmartBoard It is a proven way to engage students Addresses different learning styles Encourages active participation BUT…. Costs for a SmartBoard with software can be over $2000 and the request for one was denied last year.

The Problem The demographic for Sundance Elementary School in Rancho Penasquitos is too wealthy to qualify for Title I funding, but on the lower end of the socio-economic scale, so parents are not large contributors, therefore our technology budget is limited.

Who and Why Population Needs Assessment

Goals and Objectives Reading Fluency: By annual review the students in the Resource Specialist Program (RSP) will increase their reading fluency by an average of 15 words per minute in 4/5 trials as measured by grade level DIBELS scores. Math Facts: By annual review the grade students in the Resource Specialist Program (RSP) will produce a picture, an array and use repeated addition to demonstrate understanding of multiplication as measured by teacher collected data. Behavior: By annual review the 3 rd grade students in the Resource Specialist Program (RSP) will increase their time on task 10 % during non-preferred activities teacher charting.

Budget

Project Takeaways There are lots of interactive whiteboard and accessory options--many you can make out of less expensive equipment The technology alone does not achieve results, the user must be trained to fully implement interactive whiteboards Creating a grant proposal forces participants to examine a project from many aspects, determine value and think long-term
