Monarchy One person (king/emperor) has power to make all political decisions

Oligarchy A few people have the power to make all political decisions

Tyranny One person seizes power by force and rules single-handedly

Democracy People vote to make political decisions

26.2 Monarchy …one person (king) Power is inherited (usually father to son) Lost power because: Depended on aristocrats during war Aristocrats wanted more power Overthrew king

26.3 Oligarchy …a few people Aristocrats who overthrew monarchy Lost power because: Ignored needs of the people Unpopular laws Enforced with the army Rich got richer Eventually the poor turned to army leaders
