Presentation transcript:

Turned down by the Women’s Christian Temperance Union (WCTU), Carry went looking to get her dislike of alcoholism heard. When, that wasn’t working for Carry Nation, she turned to violence to solve her ways. Carry Nation was a temperance reformer, who took her “reforming” to the extreme. Nation is most known for destroying saloons with her hatchet, out of anger. Carry’s anger formed out of her first husband’s alcohol use, and often drunk-ness. At the time, liquor was illegalin Kansas, and she believedwherever they sold it that itwas wrong. In the 1890’s shebegan her rage on saloonsand bars in Kansas. Then, worked to other places in thecountry, bambarding barswith her hatchet, and otherweapons.

Theodore Roosevelt Theodore Roosevelt wanted to use the government to break up the bad trusts/monopolies. He created the Northern Securities Company, a railroad monopoly in the Northwest. This suit launched a “trust- busting” crusade against big business that would carry over into Roosevelt's second term. He became the first president to intervene in a labor- management dispute. clipart
