Seeds and Dispersal

Seed- an undeveloped plant with stored food sealed in a protective coating. Seed Coat Leaf Root Stem

Some Seeds are Covered by Fruits Kiwi Peach Pomegranate Tomato

Edible Seeds Sunflower seeds peanuts lima beans

Tree Seeds Acorns are the seeds of oak trees. These are the seeds of a cypress tree. A pine cone holds the seeds for a pine tree.

Seed Dispersal Disperse means to spread out. Seeds must be dispersed!!!! Seeds grow best if they are AWAY from their parent plant. Parent plants block sunlight and soak up water and nutrients that the seedling needs. Seeds disperse from the parents by wind, water, or animals.

Horrible fashion, great seed dispersal!!!! When these seeds fall off, they can begin to grow.

These seeds are dispersed by the wind. How does their shape help in dispersal?

This coconut will eventually grow into a new palm tree. Does this explain why palm trees are only found in coastal areas?

How do animals like these animals help with seed dispersal?

How about these monkeys? How will they help disperse the seeds found in the fruit?
