Overview  Recap  Timeline  Development Environment  Progress  Issues Encountered  Project Preview  Testing  Evaluation  Conclusion

Recap To evaluate the benefits of using Marker/marker-less augmented reality to improve location sensing accuracy within a pervasive gaming environment.  Is object tracking a viable way to improve location sensing accuracy and stable placement of virtual objects?

Timeline Initial

Amended Timeline

Development Environment  Windows Phone 7.8  Silverlight and XNA  Visual Studio 2010 WP7.1 SDK  Libraries  SLARToolkit (Silverlight Augmented Reality Toolkit)  OpenCV (Object Tracking Library)

Progress So Far…  Mid Year Assignment  Literature Review (Completed)  Project Development  Working GPS & Compass bearings (Completed)  Augmented overlay (Completed)  Marker-based tracking (In development)

Issues Encountered  GPS on each phone tested returned a different result  Phones tested on: Nokia Lumia 920, HTC Surround, HTC 7 Mozart  No useable libraries for marker-less augmented reality for Windows Phone Platform  Determining how marker based tracking can be incorporated to improve location based accuracy  Determining position to overlay virtual objects in viewing space  Size and distance for overlaying objects

Project Preview  Block Based Game  2 Main Game Views  Map View  Camera World View

Project Preview

Project Preview (cont.)

Testing  Testing period to start in late May to early June  Waiting for conditional ethics approval  Development not completed yet  Three different modes to be tested  GPS only  With marker tracking  With marker-less tracking  Survey  User Experience

Testing - Evaluation  Screenshots of what user sees  Time it takes to locate an object  Coordinates and bearings of the user  Survey

Conclusion & Future Work  To be completed  Completion of game by end of breakready for testing  Testing  Marker-less Tracking  Future Work  Improved Markerless tracking  Better gameplay
