Picking Stickies Part 1 (Classbuilding) Place six sticky notes on your faux dry erase board On the first sticky write “Something that is unique about you” On the next sticky write “How you relax on the weekends” On the next sticky write “TV programs that you would binge watch if you had time” On the next sticky write “A favorite type of food” When the signal word is given you will stand up, hand up, and pair up Each partner takes a turn reading the other partners sticky notes As one partner reads they take sticky notes that relate to them somehow. RULE: There must be one sticky note left on the other persons board at all times When done find a new partner until time is called

Exchanging Stickies Part 2 (Teambuilding Return to your team with your new stickies Starting with one person read a sticky from your board Initial your sticky and place it in the center of the table If there are any other team members who can relate to that sticky they initial it Continue until all stickies are gone Discuss your commonalities until time is called

Fan-N-Pick Questions are written on card Each team receives cards Students have numbers 1-4 Student # 1- holds question cards in a fan and say “Pick a card, any card!” Student # 2 – picks a card reads the questions aloud, and allows five seconds think time. Student # 3- answers the question Student # 4- answers right / wrong and checks or tutors the student. Students rotate roles, one person clockwise for each new round.

Find Someone Who Students each have worksheet or card Students mix the class, keeping a hand raised until they find a partner that is not a teammate. In pairs, Partner A ask a question from the worksheet / card. Partner B checks and initials the worksheet / card Students swap roles Students continue until teacher stops or worksheet is complete

Jot Thoughts Stacks of scratch paper or post-it notes for each student. Clear area in center of table 1 Pencil for each student Teacher names a brainstorming topic, sets a time limit, and provides think time. Students write and announce as many ideas as they can in allotted time, one idea per slip of paper Each slip of paper is placed in the center of the table; students attempt to cover the table ( no slips are to overlap)

Mixed-Pair-Share No cards * Upbeat music * Teacher questions Students mix around the room Teacher calls “Pair”. Students pair up with the person closest to them and give them a high five. (Raise hand if you still need a partner) Teacher asks a question and gives them think time. Students share with their partner using Time Pair Share Partner A- shares ….. While …. Partner B listens Partner B responds with a gambit (praise) Partners switch roles.

Quiz-Quiz-Trade Each student has a card Teacher says, “Stand up, hands up, and pair up”- music plays Partner A quizzes B Partner B answers. Partner A either correct if wrong or praise Partners trade cards and thank each other Repeat these steps until time is up.

Round Robin Teacher poses a problem to which there are multiple possible responses or solutions, and provides think time. Students take turns stating responses or solutions each in turn taking about the same amount of time. Continue until time is up.

Showdown Each team has a set of review cards Question cards should be stacked in the center of the table face down. Each student has an Answer Board, response cards, or manipulatives.

Student directions- Showdown The teacher selects one on each team to be the showdown captain for first round Showdown Captain draws the top card reads the question, and provides think time. Working alone, all students including the Showdown Captain, write their answer When finished, teammates signal they’re ready. The Showdown Captain calls, “Showdown.” Teammates show and discuss their answers. The Showdown Captain leads the checking IF correct, the team celebrates; if not, teammates tutor, then celebrate

Talking Chips Teams need eight chips Two chips per student The teacher provides discussion topic and provides think time. Any student begins the discussion, placing one of his or her chips in the center of the table. Any student with at chip continues discussing, using his or her chip When all the chips are used, teammates each collect their chips and continue the discussion using their talking chips.

Time Pair Share Students have partner The teacher announces a topic, states how long each student will share, and provide think time. In pairs, Partner A shares; Partner B listens Partner B responds with a positive gambit. Partners switch roles.
