Presentation transcript:

Why Softball A similar version to Baseball. First started at Yale Thanksgiving Day Few men got together and started to use boxing glove and broom stick to play ball. The idea of a smaller field happened because they played indoors during the winter to stay in shape for baseball season winter leagues formed with softer balls in diameter of 10 to 20 inches. By 1913 games and leagues formed and were taken outdoors

Rules 9 players on each team, must play defense and hit Field with baseline 65 ft apart, four bases 7 innings Umpire to call balls and strikes on batter Pitcher throws underhand 3 outs per inning

Hitting To reach base you must hit the ball on the field between lines. Hit in air and caught you are out Hit on the ground and you beat the throw to any of the four bases you are safe

Fielding You must catch ball in the air for an out If the ball is hit on the ground, you must throw to the base before runner reaches for an out. Force out if runner has another runner behind them or are running from home to first.
