Shot Reverse Shot  Shot reverse shot is an editing cut between two characters, either looking at each other or conversing, it is usually an over the shoulder shot at eye level, to enhance intimacy and make the viewer feel more involved with the conversation.  It also suggests a relationship between the two characters

180 degree rule

 Basic guideline that states that two characters should in one scene should always have the same left/right relationship.  If the camera passes over the imaginary axis it is called crossing the line.  The new shot from the opposite side is called a reverse angle.

180 degree rule  It is an essential part of continuity editing – creating logical coherence between cuts and scenes.  Orientates the viewer/audience – it enables the audience to visually connect with unseen movement happening around and behind the immediate subject.  Breaking the rule would disorientate the viewer/audience.

Match On Action  Match on action is an editing technique for stabililty editing in which one shot cuts to another shot revealing the action of the issue in the first shot  This creates the feeling of sense and continuity – the action present on the screen creates a ‘visual’ bridge which draws the viewers attention away from slight cutting or continuity issues  Match on Action Shooting - Friends Match on Action Shooting - Friends

Your Brief  You must create a 30 second video that demonstrates your ability to use ◦ Shot Reverse Shot ◦ 180 degree rule ◦ Match on Action  You need to make notes on your website on these 3 rules (under the heading ‘preliminary task’  You must storyboard your task prior to recording it  You must complete a treatment prior to recording it  Then you can shoot and edit your video on Sony Vegas Pro  Finally, you must publish it to YouTube

Feed Forward  Feeding forward is like feedback but it takes place BEFORE you do the task and anticipates mistakes that may be made by the student

Feed Forward  Don’t break the 180 degree rule (it will disorient your audience)  Don’t just do one continuous shot  Don’t be afraid of minor continuity issues (it will bore your audience)  Don’t forget to storyboard and treatment your brief
