Fraction, decimals and percentages. Parental Guide

These are just different ways of describing a quantity. 25%

Converting between% and fractions The clue is in the sign and the name. % is made up of a 1 and two 0’s and perCENT means per100. So 15% means 15 per 100 = »

Converting between%, fractions and decimals You have to remember your place values. U

Converting between%, fractions and decimals E.g 5% = 5 per 100 E.g 20%= 20 per 100 E.g 23% is 3% and 20% U

Fractions to decimals A fraction conversion can be done two ways. Method 1: Traditional 3 8 ==8÷ Method 2: Using the unitary method This is the preferred method since we will use this for many calculations across the school.

Using the unitary method Step 1: You are changing a fraction into a decimal. So Write two column headings The first thing to consider is that 1 = to a whole= 8 eighths The next thing is to write in the value you want e.g. And a question mark for what you want to find. Write in a unit of the fraction Then using division and multiplication work down the column you know the vales of, then perform the same calculations down the column you don’t. FracDec 1 ?

Practice x3 FracDec 1 x ÷8 ÷ Now you have a go at 7 40
