Yellow Journalism Andrew Grant

Who started using it? Joseph Pulitzer, a Hungary American newspaper publisher. He published for the St. Louis Post Dispatch and the New York World

When was is used? Pulitzer first used the technique in the newspapers he acquired in the 1880s and became a leading national figure in the Democratic Party.

How was it used Yellow Journalism or yellow press is a type of journalism that is made only to make money. Little or none of the research is legitimate and the headlines are often exaggerated to increase sales.

Where was it used It was used in newspapers during the 1800’s. It was also used in the Spanish-American war by Pulitzer, some say he is the cause of the war.

What was it used for? Mainly to sell the newspapers but also to make people, places, or things look bad in politics.

Characteristics 1. scare headlines in huge print, often of minor news 2. lavish use of pictures, or imaginary drawings 3. use of faked interviews, misleading headlines, pseudo-science, and a parade of false learning from so- called experts 4. emphasis on full-color Sunday supplements, usually with comic strips (which is now normal in the U.S.) 5. dramatic sympathy with the "underdog" against the system. Spanish-American War Pulitzer and Hearst are often accused as the cause of the United States' entry into the Spanish-American War because of or exaggerations of the terrible conditions in Cuba.

Yellow Journalism today Yellow Journalism is used today as a way to put down any journalism that treats news in an unprofessional or unethical fashion.
