Presentation transcript:

The BBFC judge the content of the moving images and decide on what material is appropriate for a certain age group. The age certificates within most thriller films vary from a 15 certificate upwards. This is due to most thriller having violence, killings and some mature themes that would be inappropriate to children. For example the film 'Scream'; at the start of this film an innocent female victim is stalked and then her and her boyfriend are killed. This film was rated at a age certificate 18; this is because of the killings within the film.

film certificate with a this sign is named 'universal'; this means that the film or game is suitable for all ages. A film that would have the age certificate of a 'U' is Toy Story because it appeals to everyone. 12A age certificate means that children under the age of twelve should be accompanied by an adult. Children under twelve are advised not to watch the film. 12A films may contain mature themes, mild language and moderate sex and violence references. A 12 rating only applies to house hold media and it is recommend that children under 12 should not watch the content of the film. The content of films may contain string language, brief nudity and moderate violence. Only those over the age of fifteen are permitted to watch the certified film as it may contain adult themes, hard drugs and sex references. Adult only content and those under eighteen are not permitted to watch the film. An eighteen rating may contain hard drugs, strong language and sexual activity. A restricted 18 film means that a film with this certificate can only be shown at licensed cinemas and be sold at licensed retailers and sex shops. Adults only can watch the content as sex and violence are highly strong. For this certificate (PG) all ages are able to watch the certified film but some content may be unsuitable for children under the age of eight.

Due Retribution, 2014 Psychological Thriller Our target audience is directed to young people and also adults and above as our film includes violence and psychological issues that can be disturbing for younger audiences. Violence The scenes of the fights with rivals of other gang members. Also Daisy's scene showing her giving revenge to her fathers killer. Strong language Strong language shown through racist words and name calling related to different social groups. References to drugs The use of drugs Daisy uses before she takes the revenge. Also the gang members interaction with drugs and alcohol. Sexual activity without strong detail The scenes in the bedroom with Daisy and her fiancé. Also nude back shower scenes in the film.

Shutter Island, 2010 Thriller with subgenre of Drama and Mystery Certified Shutter Island was given a 15 rating by the BBFC because of the disturbing violent content, language and some nudity scenes. Nudity The shower room with the naked man but his genitals are barely visible; he stands in a room with other men, who are also in various states of undress. The scene is dark and unclear, so any nudity may go easily unnoticed. The scene only lasts a few seconds. Violence context The scene with a group of men holding rifles escort another group of unarmed men, line them up against a fence and open fire: bullets fly everywhere and the men begin to drop to the ground as blood sprays; after the gunfire ceases, whimpers and moans are heard (one of the executioners later remarks that it had been murder, not war). Strong Language The Shutter Island film consist of 14 F-words and its derivatives, 8 scatological terms, 6 anatomical terms, 17 mild obscenities, 1 racial slur, 10 religious profanities, 13 religious exclamations. Also name calling such as boozers, drunks, bugsies.

The Sixth Sense, 1999 Thriller with subgenre of Drama and Mystery Certified The Sixth Sense is rated 15 by the BBFC for intense thematic material and violent images. Sex/Nudity The scene of a man and woman while they kiss passionately and walk to their bedroom. It is implied they're going to have sex, but they are interrupted. Violence The ghost of a woman is seen with a very bruised face, implying she is the victim of domestic violence. She then turns around, revealing slashed, bloody wrists, implying suicide. Drugs/Alcohol The scene of a man and woman after drinking wine they appear to be drunk.
