OUR ADVENTURE The Sweet Potato Project

The Idea Before even starting the project all three of us girls and our parents had many meetings. We brainstormed tons of ideas and eventually settled on The Sweet Potato Project!

Spreading the Word The first thing that we needed to do was spread the word! We did this by: Making a blog ing people we thought would be interested Making posters and much more!

Signing People Up We went to these places to sign up eager people like you who wanted to contribute to the project! The Brookside Farmers Market Waldo Farmers Market And different schools in Kansas City

Workshops We decided that it would be a good idea if we showed people how to plant sweet potatoes! We had two workshops to give anyone who wanted instructions on how to plant! St. Elizabeth WorkshopSt. James Workshop

City Hall In our amazing journey we even got to go to City Hall! The Mayor, Sly James proclaimed that the month of July was Sweet Potato Month! All 3 of us got to talk in front of the crowd gathered at city hall that day!

Planting We planted Sweet Potatoes all around the Kansas City Area including, the St. Elizabeth Parish Garden, The Saint James Parish Garden, and our 3 separate homes. Everyone who signed also did an amazing job planting their Sweet Potatoes!

Watering Sweet Potatoes are not very hard to care for, but the most important thing you need to know when caring for them is, WATER! Watering took a lot of effort, especially because of the drought, but we persevered through it every single day!

Harvesting Harvesting was a lot of fun, especially because you never knew if a small potato would come out of the ground, or a large potato the size of your head! They ranged in size from a piece of grass to a football, and we three had a great time harvesting them!

Thank You!
