History The people, known as Pilgrims, had a difficult year. They did not know how to cultivate the land and many people became sick and died.

History An Indian, named Squanto, helped the pilgrims to learn to fish and to plant seeds for crops. He also helped them form a friendship with a group of local Indians, called the Wampanoag.

History To celebrate their first successful harvest of corn, the Governor of the pilgrims, William Bradford, organized a celebratory feast and invited the Wampanoag tribe.
