The Gupta Empire

Gupta’s Golden Age  When you hear the words “Golden Age,” what does that mean to you? Starting with the student sitting closest to the east wall, go in a circle and talk about this in your pod.  Student sitting closest to the west wall, share out for your group.

After Mauryan Empire Fell in 187 BCE…  India broke into separate kingdoms and fought each other for the next 500 years.  In 320 CE, the Chandragupta family conquered kingdoms and then formed alliances with them by arranging marriages with sons and daughters of other rulers.  The Gupta line of kings lasted until about 550 CE.

Maurya & Gupta Empires Largest empire India had known since the Mauryas. Like the Mauryans, the Guptas had a council of advisors and family members help the king make decisions. Areas were broken up into provinces that were given a lot of independence as far as decision-making. These strategies helped the Guptas stay in power for a long time. These were considered peaceful times.
