Like Water For Chocolate Yummmmmmmmmmmmmm…

Magic Realism Characterized by elements of fantastic and dreamlike components woven into an otherwise realistic situation Magic realism also includes materials derived from myth and fairy tales Reliable tone Where have we seen this already?

As you come back… Take a napkin… 3-4 goldfish 1-2 marshmallows 1 candy corn Dollop of chocolate/hazelnut butter DO NOT EAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take out a sheet of paper….

Food and Psychology Marks a wide-range of psychological investments and symbolic significations Food= memory Close your eyes….let each other have their experience….Try each food one at a time Be aware of any associations, memories, or emotions that come up.

What did you experience? This novel will explore sensory experiences of food and eating- often taking characters in the novel to other worlds of experience and emotion that they could not have been transported to without the aid of the food. Enjoy!

On scrap paper… Write down a specific food memory that you have…think of the food and in a few sentences describe what memories it evokes…. See if you can write as if telling a recipe complete with memory/emotion…

HOMEWORK READ January and February ENJOY!!!!
