Education as a medium of spiritual- ethical upliftment and prosperity Integration of principles of humanity into modern education

Index 1. Introduction 2. Description of various aspirations, inclinations, and values viz. Attitude, skills, talent etc. 3. Integration with present education 4. Conclusion

1. Introduction At present our nation’s education system is leading on the path of materialistic progress. This programme is prepared with the sole objective of making it more progressive and relevant. To achieve the above objective, it is necessary that human values and the spirit of constitution are strongly, practically and effectively manifested. With this objective this programme has been prepared. Considering the present challenges faced in the world, it has become necessary to impart education in the field of environment, world peace and sense of brotherhood also. Hence, appropriate importance has been given to develop the inclination and attitude of children and youngsters in that direction. Considering above, more weightage has been given in this curriculum to develop an attitude of “Love” “Selflessness” and “Purity” which will help in enhancing the qualities of “Simplicity” “Discipline” and “Oneness”

Manifesting the feeling of peace and oneness Love Sense of Brotherhood Non-violenceTolerancePeace

Feeling of perseverance and mutual trust Selflessness Philanthropy Sense of responsibility Compassion Gratitude

Nurturing the social harmony Purity KindnessCredibility Gentleness Innocence

Integration of oneself with Society SexFear Physical LivingFood Self Control

Managing inner Demons for moral upliftment Obsession (Moha) Sex (kama) Greed (Lobh) Ego (Ahankar) Anger (Krodh)

Education that Ensures good conduct Good conduct Simplicity Self Control ObediencePoliteness

3. Integration with present education Qualities mentioned above should either be integrated or added at the relevant levels into the present curriculum of standards 1 st to 12 th of N.C.E.R.T. It is essential that relevant stories, illustrations, programmes on current affairs, different sports, competition, etc should be included in the related books of social and natural sciences. To inculcate above qualities and for teaching special subjects like environment, health, stress management, rights and duties, personality development, a separate subject should be introduced in the syllabus, under which all these subjects should be taught. For better communication and co ordination between the students, parents and teachers, a ‘Parent-Teacher Association’ in each school should be formed. This association should meet at least once in a month. This can be explained discreetly by way of diagrams as follows:

Association StudentTeacherParent

Curriculum Sports etc Natural Science Social Science Literature/ Culture

Sports/CompetitionIncentive/Encouragement Stories/IllustrationsCurrent Affairs Means of Education

New subject Personality development Environment/ Stress Management Health Rights and Duties

4. Conclusion I wish that this integration should be implemented in such a way that the students assimilate Indian cultural values into their lifestyle without increasing their burden. To achieve this goal, the role of teacher is significant and decisive. Hence proper training, encouragement/rewards and suitable environment should be provided to the teachers. Believe me, if we succeed in this project, ‘Bharat’ along with being a world leader can also emerge as a role model in terms of education for the entire world.

I thank all the members of Planning Commission for patient and attentive hearing Jainacharya Vijay Ratnasundersuri
