Spoken Word About America In 4 Minutes” “The Truth About America In 4 Minutes” By: Wellington By: Branden Wellington I chose this spoken word piece because I thought it would be interesting to view. I also enjoyed the message it sent; about how America has its ups and downs. And how it talks about the American belief versus some of the things that actually go on.

The Raven By: Edgar Allan Poe Edgar Allan Poe was born in 1809 on January, 19. Poe was an accomplished poet and at one point a military man; dis-charged in 1829 after securing a replacement to finish his enlisted term for him. When Poe's brother died, he began a more serious attempt to start his career as a writer. Later Poe and his cousin Virginia eloped on September 22, 1835 her being at the age of 13 and him 26. The theme of "The Raven" is the mourning of a man who lost his love "Lenore". Its about the man's everlasting love for his love "Lenore" and his decision as to weather to forget her or remember her forever. The Lines "Respite - respite and nepenthe from thy memories of Lenore!" and "Quaff, oh quaff this kind nepenthe, and forget this lost Lenore!" showing his want to forget. But the lines "It shall clasp a sainted maiden whom the angels name Lenore -" "Clasp a rare and radiant maiden, whom the angels name Lenore?" showing his need to know of her existence. The figurative language used in this poem are personification and imagery. In the lines "`Though thy crest be shorn and shaven, thou,' I said, `art sure no craven. Ghastly grim and ancient raven wandering from the nightly shore -Tell me what thy lordly name is on the Night's Plutonian shore! 'Quoth the raven, `Nevermore.", Edgar gives the Raven the ability to speak but only ever saying "Nevermore" which is a form of personification. "Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December, And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor." these lines are examples of the imagery used in the poem "the raven".

Sonnet 73 By: William Shakespeare William Shakespeare birth date unknown to all, and baptized in 1564 was one of the most brilliant poet, actor and play-writer in the world. Son of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, he attended King Edward IV Grammar school in Stratford there he learned Latin and Greek. 18, Shakespeare married Anne Hathaway and together they raised there two daughters Susanna and Judith whose twin brothers died at a very young age. Sonnet 73 one of William Shakespeare's most famous poem's theme is love and immortality. Death's second self, that seals up all in rest; the part that states Death's second self is a sort of immortality. "This thou perceivest, which makes thy love more strong, To love that well which thou must leave ere long" contributes to the love theme. Another theme would be nature; When yellow leaves, or none, or few is speaking of nature. Bare ruin'd choirs, where the sweet birds sang; these lines speak about the way the birds sing and describes it. Sonnet 73 uses imagery as one of its figurative language. The lines "When yellow leaves, or none, or few, do hang", "Upon those boughs which shake against the cold,", and "Bare ruin'd choirs, where late the sweet birds sang." depicts an autumn day where trees bare yellow leaves here and there and the wind shakes the branches and birds sing.

We Grow Accustomed to the Dark Emily Dickinson, was born on December 10th, 1830 in Amherst, Massachusetts. Emily was a poet, born into a successful family with strong outside connections. She attended Amherst Academy for seven years of her life, and spent a short time in Mount Holyoke Female Seminary before going back to her family in Amherst. Mrs. Dickinson was a very private poet; nearly a dozen out of her 800 poems were published. The poems that were published were fixed and changed to fit the conventional poetic rules of the time. Isolation is the theme to the poem "we grow accustomed to the dark". Isolation meaning to be separated from the world; "when light is put away" people adjust to the darkness, darkness being the isolation she feels as she leaves. Stanza 4, talking about the kids walking through in the dark running into things do-to the darkness (isolation), but once they become adjusted they're able to see straight and continue on.

The Idea of Ancestry Etheridge Knight came from a poor family born in Corinth, Mississippi and spent his time growing up in Paducah, Kentucky. Knight dropped out at the age of 16, even though he was considered an extremely bright child. Etheridge found himself facing an 8 year sentence after rubbing a bank. In an attempt to create a propose for himself Knight joined the army in "Taped to the wall of my cell are 47 pictures: 47 black faces: my father, mother, grandmothers (1 dead), grand-fathers (both dead), brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins (1st and 2nd), nieces, and nephews..." this imagery helps create understanding, and shows his family's importance. Alliteration is also used in the poem, alliteration is the repetition of the first consonant sounds in several words. An example of the alliteration used in the poem is "I am me, they are thee".

In The Events Of My Demise Tupac Amaru Shakur born on June 16, 1971 East Harlem, Manhattan NY. Shakur grow up living with convicted felons who were charged with serious criminal offences and imprisoned. At twelve years old, He enrolled in Harlem's 127th street Repertory Ensemble and was casted as Travis Younger. He attended Baltimore School for the Arts, where he studied, acting, poetry, jazz, and ballet. He even performed in a Shakespeare play and played a roll in the Mouse King in the ballet The Nutcracker. The theme of this poem is to always be positive. I Hope I Die For A Principle; its kind of like a positive view he see's before his death, he wants to die knowing that he left leaving behind something. I have come 2 grips with the possibility and wiped the last tear from My eyes; he's excepted his death and has become a sort of peace with it. The Figurative Language used in this poem are hyperbole. Because I feel the shadow's Depth; you cant really feel the shadows depth. In this line he's expressing how he can since his last days approaching. Imagery used in the poem I have come 2 grips with the possibility and wiped the last tear from My eyes; its him speaking on how he had shed his last tears before his death.
