Conflict is what drives the story forward, and helps plot progress.  Two main kinds of conflict:  External: when the protagonist is fighting against something outside of him/her self.  Internal: when the protagonist is fighting against his/her self.  Ex: when a character is faced with the option to lie, or to tell the truth

 The main character of the story.  Often seen to as the hero of the story.

 The character or group of characters that provide the opposition for the protagonist.  Darth Vader to Luke Skywalker  Voldemort to Harry Potter  Loki to the Avengers

 The use of symbols to represent ideas and qualities by giving them symbolic meanings that are different from their literal sense.  A red rose normally symbolizes romantic love  A broken mirror represents bad luck
