Our Morning Meeting Routine

Policies and Procedures for Reading, Spelling, and Science Homework assignments (Reading, Spelling, and Science) for the whole week are written on the board every Monday and on PowerPoint. Written homework will be given on Mondays and Tuesdays. Wednesdays- Fridays will be study days. Homework will be given in a PowerPoint copy of the assignments every two weeks. Also, homework for the week is written on the dry erase board for the week. All homework assignments will be checked daily. Reading and Science assignments are to be placed in your child’s binders.

Policies and Procedures for Reading, Spelling, and Science Studying is considered very important and should not be taken lightly. Homework is counted for a grade, which will be lowered in conduct. If graded formative assignments are not complete, that would also result in a lower formative grade for that particular assignment. Please check your child’s agenda and homework sheet to see if homework is being done. Spelling will be done in the Spelling practice book at home for homework. Science homework will most likely be a outline study guide given to the students to complete and study for the week. Also, students will write and study their weekly science vocabulary words in their binders. Reading homework will consist of reading your AR books and completing a “Independent Reading Reflection” sheet (IRR) and a Common Core Daily Review packet. The Reading homework assignments will alternate every other week to be consistent.

Reading Homework every 2 weeks CCDRIRR (Use AR book)

Fun Learning Activities! In my Reading and Science classes, we will engage in fun, hands-on activities that promote positive learning. We will participate in educational games that will challenge students’ thinking and prepare them for the world. There will be times when we will engage in competition games between groups. Projects will be given throughout the school year with advance notice. Here’s the time to be creative!! Students will be able to cite evidence from passages with confidence and read and comprehend texts on their level and above! This is going to be an exciting school year!!!

AR Goals Every 9 weeks, there will be a competition between Mrs. Fredericks, Mrs. Spell, and Mr. Scarnati’s homeroom classes to see which class reads the most words for each nine weeks. For the winning class, there will be a pizza party or donut party. There will also be individual prizes for the top 2 A.R. readers from each class. Students are responsible for earning at least 5 points each nine weeks. One summative grade will come from students earning the required 5 points. Good luck and have fun!!!

Classroom Rules, Consequences, and Rewards for Mrs. Fredericks’ Classes  Listen when others are talking.  Follow directions.  Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.  Work quietly and do not disturb others.  Show respect for school and personal property.  Work and play in a safe manner.

Classroom Rules, Consequences, and Rewards School Rules  Be Safe  Be Respectful  Be Responsible Behavior Chart Incentives and Consequences A – Fun Friday activity ( last 20 minutes of class) B – Fun Friday activity (3 infractions)C – Move to the reflection desk and reflect (4 infractions)D – Time out with a buddy teacher (5 or more infractions)F - Behavior Report Every Monday, all students will start at the “A~ 100% “level. The weekly conduct grade is final on Friday evenings of every week. The behavior chart stays in Mrs. Fredericks’ class. Behavior grades will be posted on test papers.

Assessments and Test Papers During each nine-week period, we will have at least 2 benchmark tests (complied from 2 weeks of class lessons) 2 performance tasks (i.e., constructed response, assigned report/essay, project, etc.) and 2 teacher-created tests ( question tests). These are summative grades and are equivalent to 75% of the student’s total grade. We will also have at least 9 formative grades equivalent to 25% of the student’s grade. Example of formative grades are exit tickets, quizzes, observation, group actitivies, station time, class participation, homework assignments, and classwork. The change in assessment aligns with teaching the Common Core State Standards to the mastery level. Test papers will be sent home every two weeks on a Wednesday in a yellow test folder. Please sign and return the test papers by Friday of the same week. When test papers are not returned, we do not send any more test papers home.

Punch Cards For the beginning of the school year, each student will receive a punch card from Mrs. Fredericks. The punch card will have 10 boxes to be punched. Once all 10 boxes have been punched, students will receive a treat from the treat container and they will receive a new card. If a card is missing, a student will not receive a new one until the new nine weeks. To earn a punch, a student must do the following: Return signed test papers on the next day after it was given. Important papers/forms signed and returned on the next day. “A” in conduct for the whole week. Perfect homework in both Reading, Spelling, and Science for the entire week.
