The name Daisy mean day’s eye. The Daisy flowers are very appealing while opening at dawn and attract a lot of small insects. A Daisy is a mix of two flowers called a disk floret and a white ray floret. The Daisy belongs to the Daisy family of Compositae, known now as Asteraceae. The leaves of daisy are consumable and are often used in salads and the flower itself used in making honey and herbal tea.

In many parts of Europe sunflowers have provided, and still provide leaves for smoking, flower buds for salads, flowers for dyes, and oil for cooking. A sunflower's head can grow to be as big as 2 feet across and the plant itself can be as tall as 18 feet. Well this year our tallest one got to over 10 feet tall. The shortest Nature sunflower on record was just over 2 inches tall and was grown in Oregon using the Bonsai technique

These days, the majority of daffodils are grown in the Channel Islands, Great Britain, Holland and the Isles of Scilly. There are over 25,000 varieties of daffodils and they come in yellow, white, orange and even a peach/pink shade. The emblem of Wales is the daffodil. People often wear daffodils on St. David’s Day. BE CAREFUL - All parts of the daffodil are poisonous.

Roses are ancient flowers that have captured hearts and imaginations for centuries. We think of the rose as the most beautiful flower of all but there is something that the roses have and that no other flower has, it is the tiny thorns that there is on their small trunk. The rose’s natural colour is red but there is a lot varieties how the a colourful rose and can be. The rose was always known as the flower of love and that it was given a lot to love birds.

There are about 100 species of wild tulip, growing right across Asia to China. Tulips come in most colours but blue. Reds and yellows are common, but they vary from white to deep purple. Tulips are flowers that bloom in spring from bulbs. The word tulip comes from the Turkish word for ‘turban’, because of their shape. Huge numbers of tulips are now grown in the fields in Holland.

The name "pansy" actually originates from the French word, pensie. Pensie is defined as "meaning thought or remembrance.“ Pansy may reach the length of 9 inches. Pansies have three basic colour patterns. One is a single colour that is yellow or blue. Another pattern is a flower that has black lines that originate from its centre. The third pattern has a dark centre, which is known as its face.

Violets are small, sweet-smelling flowers composed of five petals, each about the size of a thumbprint. These petals, are found in nearly every colour and often feature two or three colours per flower petal. The leaves of the violet plants are extremely small, and sometimes entirely undetectable(hard to find). Violet leaves and flowers are edible and have a delicate, sweet flavour. They can be candied, used to make stuffing and, more commonly, used as a garnish for a variety of dishes such as salads and desserts

Bluebells are a perennial (everlasting) plant named for the shape of the flower which looks like a tiny bell. These flowers grow in clusters and are usually, but not always, blue as the name implies. Bluebells can be a creamy, off-white colour. The cream-colored bluebell is rarely found in nature. This plant has long stems and narrow leaves. It grows to be 12 to 18 inches tall.

Carnations are often considered to be one of the less exciting cut flowers you can receive. Inexpensive, readily available, and sold in a rainbow of unnatural colours, carnations are the mainstay of the boutonniere or corsage. Don't underestimate the humble carnation however; it has a history as colourful as its varieties.
