LO: to recognise the basic layout of the Earth and begin to use an atlas to locate places.

How many continents are there? Let’s vote!

Continents

Let’s see what we remember

Task... On your blank map of the world carefully colour each continent a different colour. Draw a key with a ruler to show what continent each colour represents (example shown below) South America

How many oceans? Are there more oceans than continents? Stand up if you think yes. Heads on the table if you think no.

Task... Add the oceans neatly to your map of the world.

Using the Atlas At the back of the atlas is an index. Use this to find the following places. You need to find the country listed alphabetically and turn to the page number given. If it is small you may need to also use the grid reference given (B1,) to help find it. Add the following to your map: New ZealandTasmaniaIndonesia Taiwan, ChinaPakistan Iraq Italy AfghanistanGermany KenyaGreenland IcelandChileArgentinaCuba. EXT: Try to find 5 countries for all the continents except two.

Round the world- All stand up In turn you will be given a letter- I want a continent, country or ocean beginning with that letter. If you don’t know one sit down and we move on to find the Geography Brain
