Definition of “Self-esteem is the process of setting a goal and taking a risk to try to reach it.” “Self-esteem is a learned, but habit-forming phenomenon. Once a self-image is formed, it takes a lot of work, support, commitment and repetition of new data to change it.” “Self-esteem is a process, not an event.”

Developing Self-Esteem involves: 1. Expanding methods of verbal and non-verbal communication 2. Setting realistic limits 3. Recognizing strengths and weaknesses 4. Demonstrating a sense of personal competence 5. Demonstrating a sense of purpose
