EARTH IS A MAGNET MAGNETS ARE OBJECTS THET ATTRACT IRON AND STEEL. THIS FORCE OF ATTRACTION IS CALLED MAGNETISM. MAGNETS CAN BE NATURAL OR ARTIFICILA. MAGNETITE IS A NATURAL MAGNET. STEEL MAGNETS ARE ARTIFICIAL.

ELECTROMAGNETS ARE ARTIFICIAL MAGNETS.THEY NEED AN ELECTRIC CURRECT TO WORK. ELECTROMAGNETS ARE USED IN MANY APPLIANCES SUCH AS ELECTRIC BELLS AND TELEPHONES.

Electromagnets are very useful tools. They have the ability to gain a magnetic field with the introduction of current and to lose it once the current ceases. We will be building a very simple one that works with these principles. It is also a very cheap project, I had everything needed to make it lying around my house. For this project we will need: One large nail Around 5 feet of 16 gauge wire. One D cell battery Some electrical tape (optional) All of this can be bought at a hardware store for under $4. Tools: Wire stripper Pliers

THE FORCE OF MAGNETS THE AREA AROUND MAGNET WHERE THEY EXERT MAGNETIC FORCE IS CALLED A MAGNETIC FIELD. ALL MAGNETS HAVE GREATER ATTRACTION POWER IN TWO AREAS. THESE AREAS ARE CALLED POLES. MAGNETS HEVE A NORTH POLE AND A SOUTH POLE. WHEN WE PLACE TWO POLE OF THE SAME TYPE CLOSE TOGETHER, THEY REPEL EACH OTHER.
